April Fools’ Day. The day we’re reminded that the universe has a sense of humor — and uses it freely.
Tonight begins Passover. The ancient story of a crossing that happened before anyone was certain it was safe. Before the waters parted, there was only a shoreline and a people deciding whether to believe something was possible.
And outside the window, spring is doing exactly what spring does. Insisting. Not asking permission. Not waiting for ideal conditions. Just pushing up through whatever’s in the way, because that’s what alive things do.

What wants to become doesn’t wait for better conditions.
What Arrived in the Night
Something happened to me last night that captures all of this perfectly.
I was falling asleep — finally — and a complete children’s book series arrived. Fully formed. Characters, arc, the emotional through-line. Everything. I dreamed about it all night and got the bones on paper this morning.
I haven’t written fiction before. This is entirely new territory.
And right now? It’s arriving as naturally as breathing.
I keep looking around thinking: where did THAT come from?
Where It Comes From
I think I know. It comes from the same place everything comes from when the ground is ready. It comes from whatever is insisting, underneath all the planning and effort and preparation, whether you scheduled it or not.
The joke is on certainty. On the quiet belief that we control what wants to emerge — or when, or how.
Passover says: the crossing happens before you know it’s safe.
Spring says: the shoot doesn’t wait for your permission.
And apparently, children’s book series don’t either.
The Only Question Worth Asking Today
What is insisting in you right now?
Not what you’ve planned. Not what makes logical sense given your current projects and priorities.
What is pushing up through.
That’s worth sitting with today.
Happy April Fools. Happy Passover. Happy spring.
