Thanksgiving Perils For Pets?

Nov 24, 2010 | Bright Wings articles, Connection, Pets, Writing

For many families around the USA, Thursday will be a day to gather with family and friends — to remember that no matter how bad things seem to be, there are still many things for which we can be grateful.  And for quite a large portion of all US families, there will be pets.  Around the dining room table.  Where temptations of all kinds lurk.  Here are a few Thanksgiving tips for pets and pet owners.

I won’t go into all the funny stories about “when the cat. . . ”  or “I can’t believe my dog actually could reach that high. . . ” If you have pets, you will likely have your own stories.  Some foods are OK for pets, and others. . . well, let’s just say you don’t want to spend the rest of the weekend at the emergency vet’s office.

For a really good post by a veterinarian friend of mine, Dr. Deb Eldredge, you can read her Examiner post this week about what not to feed your pet.

Then, I DO have a really funny blog post to share with you on this topic.  It’s by one of my favorite pet writers, Christie Keith.  I will warn you not to have anything in your mouth when you read the comments, because some of them are absolutely hilarious.  Read the post — and then scroll down to read all the comments.  Here’s Christie’s post about how not to kill your pet over Thanksgiving dinner..

And while we’re discussing food — remember to pace yourself.  You can always eat leftovers!

Enjoy your Thanksgiving — with pets or with friends.

Personally, I have so much for which to be grateful, I hardly know where to begin.  It might take a while to list them all.  I plan to thank every single person and blessing, because they all matter to me.  And you, my reader, are definitely on my gratitude list!  Thank you for being here, and for everything you do to make this world a better place.

Happy Thanksgiving!

P.S.  When I catch a breath, I will blog about my great experiences last weekend at the Cat Writers Conference, and what’s happening with Action Studio, where I am rocking out a fantastic new product with my friends and Mastermind Group.  Oh, and I will soon be announcing a really cool holiday package for Blue Eagle Invocation fans 🙂  Stay tuned!
